PRP and HCTP Injection Pre/Post Procedure Instructions

Comprehensive Care for Your Regenerative Treatment Journey

Harbour Medical Centers – Stuart, FL

At Harbour Medical Centers in Stuart, FL, we are committed to maximizing your outcomes from regenerative therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Human Cellular and Tissue Products (HCTP) injections. To ensure your safety and support optimal healing, it’s important to follow these detailed pre- and post-procedure instructions.

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy that uses components of your own blood to accelerate healing in damaged tissues. A small blood sample is drawn, then spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP, which is rich in growth factors and platelets.

Once injected into the targeted area, PRP triggers a controlled inflammatory response. This response helps stimulate collagen production, attract stem cells, and activate tissue regeneration.

  • Typical treatment plan: 3 initial sessions spaced apart
  • Maintenance: Touch-up treatments every 6 months as needed
  • Benefits: No general anesthesia, minimal downtime, and no allergic reaction (since it’s your own tissue)

What is HCTP (Human Cellular and Tissue Product)?

HCTP therapy is a next-generation regenerative treatment that uses stem cells and signaling molecules to reduce inflammation and support tissue repair. This therapy is ideal for individuals suffering from tissue degeneration or chronic pain.

HCTP is harvested from Wharton’s Jelly (a substance in the umbilical cord) or amniotic fluid, collected exclusively from scheduled C-sections at FDA-regulated facilities. No fetal or embryonic tissue is used.

  • Ethical sourcing with rigorous donor screening
  • No immune rejection due to acellular product processing
  • Powerful regenerative support especially for aging or injured tissue

Pre-Procedure Instructions

Medication Guidelines

You must stop using the following medications at least 48 hours before your procedure and avoid them for 6 weeks after:

  • NSAIDs: Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, naproxen, meloxicam, diclofenac
  • Aspirin
  • Oral steroids (procedure must be scheduled ≥ 2 weeks after use)
  • Steroid injections (procedure must be scheduled ≥ 2 weeks after)

Day of Treatment

  • Hydrate well before your visit
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours prior
  • Refrain from eating fatty or sugary foods for at least 24 hours before your procedure
  • Do not exercise vigorously the day of your appointment
  • The procedure may be postponed if you have an active infection, high blood pressure, or other contraindications

Post-Procedure Instructions

Following your injection, it’s essential to care for the treated area to support the body’s natural healing process:

  • Pain relief: You may take Tylenol as needed—avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen
  • Inflammation support: Use a heating pad, but do not apply ice, as cold therapy may reduce the inflammation that is essential to healing
  • Expected side effects: Mild soreness and irritation may occur for 2–3 days—this is normal and a sign the body is responding
  • Activity guidelines: Light activity is okay, but avoid high-impact or strenuous movement for two weeks

Treatment Results

Results from PRP or HCTP injections generally begin to appear within a few weeks and reach their full potential at 4–6 weeks. Continued improvement can be seen for up to 3–6 months following treatment.

For optimal results, we recommend completing a series of at least three treatments, especially if you are using PRP alone. As with all medical treatments, individual results may vary, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long does the PRP or HCTP injection procedure take?

The full process usually takes about 30–45 minutes, including prep and recovery.

Is PRP or HCTP painful?

Most patients report only mild discomfort. A local anesthetic is used for added comfort.

When will I see results?

Some patients notice improvement within a few weeks. Full results typically develop over 1–3 months, with continued enhancement over 6 months.

How many treatments will I need?

A series of three initial treatments is typically recommended. Touch-up sessions every 6 months may help maintain results.

Can I take pain medications after the procedure?

You may take Tylenol, but avoid NSAIDs and steroids, as they interfere with the healing process triggered by PRP/HCTP.

Why can’t I use ice after my injection?

Ice reduces inflammation, but we want to encourage a mild inflammatory response to stimulate tissue regeneration.

Is there downtime?

No major downtime is required. You should avoid high-impact activity for two weeks but may resume light activity as tolerated.

Is this covered by insurance?

PRP and HCTP therapies are often considered elective and are not usually covered by insurance. Our team can discuss pricing and package options.
